Food For Friends

What is Food For Friends? Food For Friends is a program that collects and distributes non-perishable food to hungry and needy people in our communities.

How is the food collected and distributed? Attendees of TCC are asked to bring non-perishable food items to church on Sunday and place them in the Food For Friends bin located in our lobby.  When the bin is full, a Food For Friends volunteer from TCC will take the food to The Apostle’s House in Newark where it will be distributed to needy families.

What kind of food are we trying to collect? All non-perishable foods are welcome as well as baby formula, diapers, and personal care items.  Below is a list of needed items.  High protein items such as canned meats, beans, and peanut butter are especially needed.  Appropriate food items for donation through Food For Friends can be selected from the following list that was compiled by an award winning nutritionist and hunger activist from the Diocese of Idaho.

  • Hot or cold cereals
  • Fruit juice
  • Canned and powdered milk
  • Peanut butter
  • Tuna fish ad other canned meats
  • Pork ‘n beans
  • Beef stew
  • Crackers
  • Canned or packet soup
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruit
  • Pudding mixes
  • Boxed pasta
  • Tomato and pasta sauces
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Boxed or packaged meals
  • Anything in a box or can!

Staples such as salt, pepper, flour, sugar, oils, and condiments are often overlooked, and needed too.  Toiletries such as tooth brushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, disposable razors, shaving cream, laundry detergent, and dish washing liquid are welcome, and the pantries are always in need of diapers and baby formula.
