Why do we worship God? To put it simply, we worship because it is what we were created to do. Worship lies at the heart of our relationship with God because we are to reflect His glory and the hope of the gospel that lives in us. Each Sunday morning, we come before God’s throne in reverence and celebration of the redeeming work he has done. We strive to build a worshiping community where people’s view of, trust in, and desire for God’s glory in Christ can increase.
Although it is not the only means by which we worship, God does desire for us to use music to worship him. This is evident in Scripture (Psalm 150). Music is important in worship because it expresses God-glorifying emotions and helps us as believers to express unity in the gospel. It combines the truth of God and passion by using sound theological ideas to ignite our hearts. Overall, music is meant to enable us to genuinely and consistently magnify the greatness of God.
At The Crossing, we believe it is important to honor the Lord with excellence (Psalm 33:3, 1 Chronicles 15:22, Numbers 18:29-30). While we incorporate many creative elements in our worship services, we are not aiming to glorify creativity as a means in itself. Instead we strive to glorify our Creator because he inspires us to play, sing, run sound, media, and lights for the joy of pleasing him.
