Worship Reflections: "Lord, I Need You"

Posted by Ian McGlynn on

We won't need to sing this song when we are ultimately with our Lord and Savior. But for now, in these desperate times, this song is very real, and these words have meaning.

Do you believe every word you sing in this song? And do you really believe that you need God every hour of every day? We should not be ashamed to sing of our dependence on God. In the Book of Lamentations it says, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23). God's love and mercy is new every moment.

When we come before the Lord, we are called to enter into His presence in humility and reverence. We are called to worship Him in spirit and in truth. That is, engaging the whole heart. We all experience joy and we all experience sorrow in this life. For some, it is natural to worship God in times of joy. That deep peace, knowing that we are loved no matter what. For some, it is natural to worship God in times of sorrow. That deep need, recognizing that God wants us to fall on Him. David writes, "I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth" (Psalm 34:1). As Christ followers, do we worship Him at all times? That is the challenge for us all.

Crying out to God is an admission of your need for God. Cry out and worship God throughout the day, every day, so that He can do powerful things in your life. Especially in times of joy. Especially in times of sorrow. Psalm 34:17, David continues, "When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles."

Lord, I Need You

(Verse 1)

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here, I find my rest
Without You, I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You
Oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh, God how I need You

(Verse 2)

Where sin runs deep
Your grace is more
Where grace is found, is where You are
Where You are, Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Teach my song
To rise to you
When temptation comes my way,
When I cannot stand
I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay
